The Return to ZI

ZeldaInformer is back… well, almost. The site is back up, but we won’t be posting anything there until January 1st, so, unless something huge news-wise happens within the next twenty-four hours, don’t expect to see any more posts here on this temporary site.

In the meantime, go here to check out the nifty countdown page until our return, or go here for an explanation as to why the site went down in the first place.

See you in the new year.

Nintendo Direct Conference: Everything You Need to Know

Last night, Nintendo streamed the lastest in their series of online conferences, in which they talk about upcoming games and reveal new trailers and release dates. While many were lead to believe this Nintendo Direct conference would feature both Wii and 3DS announcements, news concerning the Wii was absent. Perhaps the console is in more trouble next year than we thought when it comes to its software line-up.

Anyways, while the reveals were not as big as those at the conference back in September, a lot of new information was tossed around.

Unfortunately, due to ZeldaInformer being down, and half the staff being gone for the holidays, we were unable to cover the event as it aired last night. However, I have done my best to arrange all the important information into one post.

Skyward Sword Theme Covered by STL Ocarina

STL Ocarina, after receiving request after request, has updated their youtube channel with a cover of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword‘s Main Theme on their new double octave ocarina.

The new ocarina truly is the best-sounding Zelda-ocarina out there, and this cover isn’t too bad either. Take a listen.

Nintendo Japan to Hold Another Nintendo Direct Conference For 3DS and Wii, New Game Announcements Incoming?

Published on December 24th, 2011 by in 3DS, DS, Wii

Nintendo’s set the date for their next online “Nintendo Direct” press conference: December 27, just two days after Christmas (it’s actually on the 26th in the West, hop inside for details). This is the latest in a series of similar conferences, which historically have featured brand-new game announcements like Mario Tennis 3DS and Monster Hunter 3G as well as trailers and developer discussions like the several-minute-long footage for Skyward Sword we saw in October or additional gameplay details for Mario Kart 7.

Previously these conferences focused mostly on 3DS, but this one’s being billed as a joint focus on both Wii and 3DS. Does this mean more Wii games on the horizon?

Hyrule Historia: Origins of Impa, Zelda, and Link’s Names

Impa's name comes from the word impart. Want to find out why? You'll have to read on.
We’ve all heard the famous origin of Zelda’s name. No, not the backstory of Zelda II, the actual person whom the character was named after – Zelda Fitzgerald, wife of literary great F. Scott Fitzgerald. Miyamoto wanted to name the series’ titular princess after someone known for her beauty, and so he settled on the name “Zelda.”

But there are plenty of other characters besides Zelda, and Hyrule Historia reveals the origins of the names of two of them: Impa and Link.

Rumor: Final Fantasy XV Coming to Wi U, Announcement Due E3 2012

Ah, E3 rumors. We know all too well that they often prove false, particularly when they come from random internet tips. This time, however, we’re hearing from a UK games publication – GamesMaster – that the next numbered installment in the Final Fantasy series is coming to all three major gaming platforms: Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii U. This would mark the first time in over fifteen years that a new numbered Final Fantasy title is slated to grace a Nintendo console.

While there’s no way of truly verifying this rumor, we do know that Square-Enix is interested in bringing Final Fantasy to the Wii U, and with the series intended for annual new releases a 2012 game is definitely possible. E3′s less than six months away, so we should find out in due course.

Hyrule Historia Timeline 100% Confirmed and Translated

Last night, I posted a video flip-through of Hyrule Historia, a video that gave more than a few readable looks at the timeline pages contained within the art book. I immediately sent the video to GlitterBerri, who has since translated the main timeline chart contained within the book.

The translation of said chart is as follows:

3DS On Track to Surpass First Year Sales Expectations Two Months Early

Published on December 23rd, 2011 by in 3DS

Remember when 3DS sales forecasts were lowered a few months back, coinciding with the price drop? Nintendo’s got cause to sing a different tune – the 4 million sales they projected for the tail end of its first year on sale (through February of next year) are almost completely fulfilled, with two whole months to spare.

Not only that – 3DS has sold nearly 8 million units so far worldwide since launch! So much for doom and gloom for Nintendo! That’s actually a pretty successful first year. Certainly not Wii numbers, but nothing to sneeze at. Congratulations, Nintendo 3DS!

Video Flip-Through of Hyrule Historia

Youtube Mirror

Youtube user floshiden has uploaded a video in which he flips through his recently aquired copy of Hyrule Historia. He spends a good portion of the video on the timeline pages, many of which can be read (at least if you can read Japanese). It also gives a good look at what to expect from the art featured in the book, as well as the Skyward Sword manga at the end.
